Post, a publisher-focused Twitter alternative, has launched an iOS app, and Spill, a new social platform founded by former Twitter employees, has launched an invite-only beta on the App Store.
According to IANS, Post, which was launched in beta just a few days after Elon Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter, aims to reinvent how people get their news on social media.
Users can switch between three feeds when using the app: following, exploring, and news.
The news tab displays a feed of new articles from the Post’s publishing partners.
The headlines and first few paragraphs of the articles are free to read, but the rest of the article requires a microtransaction with “points” within the Post app.
Publishers currently receive 100 percent of their earnings from micropayments, but this is likely to change once Post needs to make a profit on its own.
“Premium publishers are seeing an average of $30 CPM equivalents for paid content and an average of $1.3 CPM equivalents from tips for free content.”
Meanwhile, the new social platform Spill has launched on the App Store in an invite-only beta.
The spill is a visually focused multimedia microblogging service with a Tumblr-like interface.
When users open the app, they will see a feed with recent posts from people they follow as well as posts served by an algorithm.
