Microblogging giant Twitter is working to add a new feature to its platform, the ability to edit a tweet, the company has said.
The platform will test the feature with Twitter Blue subscribers in the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.
“We’ve been exploring how to build an Edit feature safely since last year and plan to begin testing it within @TwitterBlue Labs in the coming months. Sharing a few more insights on how we’re thinking about Edit,” said Jay Sullivan, Twitter’s VP of a consumer product in a tweet thread.
Without things like time limits, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, Edit could be misused to alter the record of the public conversation. Protecting the integrity of that public conversation is our top priority when we approach this work, The Hindu reported.
However, according to other media reports over the past few days, Tesla boss Elon Musk — one of the Top 10 Twitter users in the world and now named on the micro-blogging company’s Board— has been egging Twitter and building up a public opinion on quick introduction of the Edit button.
He actually ran a Twitter poll earlier this week on the edit facility. Twitter boss Parag Aggarwal has said Musk has some suggestions and that they were looking into them.
By naming Musk on the Board, the Tesla chief has been preempted from making a takeover bid of Twitter or go beyond 15 percent shareholding till he remains a Board member.
