Leading telecom service provider VodafoneIdea (Vi) and a private LTE and 5G solutions provider, Athonet, have joined hands to test 5G-based solutions for developing industry 4.0 use cases, using the 5G trial spectrum allocated by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
The partnership with Athonet includes the demonstration of enterprise use cases on 5G in several areas, including smart construction, smart warehouse, smart agriculture, and smart workplace, Vi said in a statement.
Additionally, Vi and Athonet will validate industrial use cases demonstrating high reliability, critical monitoring, and control applications in industries such as construction, railways, warehouse, factories and more.
Today’s development comes close on the heels of Vi’s tie-up with conglomerate Larsen & Toubro for testing validating smart city solutions based on 5G.
Vi has previously demonstrated peak speed over 3.7 Gbps with very low latency on the mmWave spectrum band and peak download speeds of up to 1.5Gbps in the 3.5Ghz band 5G trial network with its OEM partners.
Vodafone Idea’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Abhijit Kishore, said, “Vi Business has a significant presence in enabling smart utility and smart infrastructure solutions to large and small enterprises.”
Speaking on the partnership, Athonet’s Chief Executive Officer, Gianluca Verin, said, “This partnership with Vodafone Idea Limited shows the real use cases and benefits that 5G-SA can bring. Over the last decade, Athonet has built a complete solution for private LTE and 5G cellular allowing best of breed networks to be delivered with cutting edge applications.”
Vi has been allocated mmWave high bands like 26 GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum band by the DoT, for 5G network trials and development of use cases.
