WhatsApp mulls introducing high-quality videos in iOS beta

WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, is introducing a new feature for iOS beta users that enables them to send high-quality videos.

Although some compression will still be applied to the videos, this feature allows users to preserve the original dimensions of the videos.

However, sending videos in their true, uncompressed quality is not currently possible.

By default, all videos will be sent in “Standard quality” and users will need to manually select the high-quality option each time they want to send a video with better quality.

When a video is sent using this feature, a tag will be added to the message bubble to inform the recipient that the video was sent in high quality.

It’s important to note that this feature is currently unavailable for sharing videos through status updates.

However, WhatsApp is also introducing enhancements for profile icons within group chats.

Previously, if a contact’s thumbnail was missing or hidden, their profile picture would not be displayed.

Now, the platform has updated this feature so that the initials of each group member’s name appear on the thumbnails, making it easier for participants in the conversation to recognize each individual, reported by IANS from San Francisco.
