WhatsApp has banned over 1.4 million Indian accounts in February as per their ninth User Safety Monthly Report that was published on Friday.

The Meta-owned messaging app banned over 1.8 million accounts in January.

The company said that it has invested in Artificial Intelligence and other state-of-the-art technology, data scientists and experts, and processes, to keep users safe on the platform, Economic Times reported.

The company also said it received 194 ban appeals through its grievance redressal mechanism of which 19 ‘Accounts Actioned’ were carried out, which means that the company took remedial action based on the report.

According to a report the company said, “In addition to responding to and actioning on user complaints through the grievance channel, WhatsApp app deploys tools and resources to prevent harmful behavior on the platform. We are particularly focused on prevention.”

WhatsApp said it also enables users to block contacts and to report problematic content and contacts from inside the app.

“We pay close attention to user feedback and engage with specialists in stemming misinformation, promoting cybersecurity, and preserving election integrity.”
