WhatsApp working on new Android ‘audio chats’ feature

Meta-owned WhatsApp is working on a new feature called “audio chats”, which will be available within discussions in a future release of the Android app.

According to IANS, a new ‘waves’ symbol will be added to the chat header, letting users conduct audio talks, and a red button for cancelling existing calls will be shown.

Because the waveform indicator denotes the possibility of real-time audio visualization, the article speculates that the space above the chat header could be dedicated to displaying audio waveforms.

It will have a simple UI that will allow users to observe audio waveforms while moving between discussions.

Furthermore, the research stated that there is little information available regarding how this feature would work because it is still in development.

Meanwhile, Meta has released a new WhatsApp client for Windows that is faster to load and has an interface comparable to the mobile version of the software.

Users can now arrange up to eight-person group video conversations and up to 32-person voice calls.

The tech titan has also made improvements, such as speedier device connection and better device syncing, as well as new features such as link previews and stickers.
