YouTube, which is owned by Google, has added several new features to its Premium service, including higher quality video for web and iOS users, support for co-watching films on FaceTime via Apple’s SharePlay, and other options for managing their queue on mobile devices.
To deliver an even greater video quality experience to its Premium subscribers, the firm will debut an improved bitrate version of 1080p HD video quality starting on iOS (with an experiment coming to the Web soon as well) in the coming weeks.
“While all users will continue to have access to 1080p, this enhanced 1080p quality setting will look extra crisp and clear, especially for videos with a lot of detail and motion,” YouTube explained in a blog post.
The company created a feature that will give customers more control over their queue for individuals who want to hop from one video to the next, IANS reported from SanFrancisco.
“Today, we’re expanding queuing to phones and tablets for Premium members, giving you complete control over what you’re watching,” the business added.
Furthermore, the business has simplified the sharing experience’ while watching YouTube videos.
Premium members can host Google Meet sessions where all guests, whether Premium or free users, can watch YouTube videos together using Meet Live Sharing on Android devices.
In the coming weeks, the business will also make this experience available to iOS FaceTime customers via SharePlay.
Another innovation announced by the video-sharing platform will allow users to hop back into YouTube across devices; that is, Premium members will be able to continue viewing videos where they previously left off even as they transition between devices, allowing them to jump back in without a single interruption.
The feature is now available on Android, iOS, and Web.
Lastly, the company introduced a feature that will keep the YouTube experience going even when users are offline.
“With Smart Downloads, while you’re connected to Wi-Fi, we automatically add recommended videos straight to your library, ready for offline viewing,” the company stated.
This feature will allow users to watch videos whenever and wherever they want, while also discovering new content without having to search.
